Inselgruppe der Nikobaren im Golf von Bengalen

Die Weltreise der Fregatte „Novara“ (1857 bis 1859) brachte die Expedition auch auf die Inselgruppe der Nikobaren im Golf von Bengalen. Fast genau 80 Jahre zuvor waren die Nikobarischen Inseln 1778 zur österreichischen Kronkolonie erklärt, die aber bereits 1784 wieder aufgegeben worden ist. Die Insel „Teressa“ trägt heute noch den Namen der österreichischen Erzherzogin Maria Theresia.

The world voyage of the frigate „Novara“ (1857 to 1859) also brought the expedition to the Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal. Almost exactly 80 years earlier the Nicobar Islands had been declared an Austrian crown colony in 1778, but had been abandoned in 1784. The island „Teressa“ still carries the name of the Austrian Archduchess Maria Theresia.
